Char Dham Helicopter Booking Guide 2026 –
When to Book, What to Expect

Booking a helicopter yatra is not like booking a flight. Seats are limited, the season is only 6 months, and the most sought-after dates fill 3–4 months in advance. Here is exactly how the process works — and what to do to secure your family's dates.

When Does the 2026 Char Dham Season Open?

The Char Dham temples open in late April or early May, aligned with the Hindu calendar. Approximate 2026 opening dates (official dates announced by the Char Dham Devasthanam Board ~4–6 weeks before):

Late April
Yamunotri & Gangotri open on Akshaya Tritiya
Early May
Kedarnath opens (typically 5–10 days after Akshaya Tritiya)
Mid May
Badrinath opens (typically 7–14 days after Kedarnath)
June–July
Peak season. Heaviest crowds. Most seats already booked.
August–Sept
Monsoon shoulder. Some helicopter slots available. Weather variability higher.
October–Nov
Second season peak. Temples close Diwali-ish. Crisp, clear weather.

How Far in Advance Should You Book?

Departure MonthBook ByAvailability Risk
May 2026January–February 2026Very High
June 2026February–March 2026High
July 2026March–April 2026Medium
August–SeptApril–May 2026Lower
October 2026July–August 2026Medium
The rule of thumb: book 3–4 months before your intended departure.

May and June are the most popular months — often fully booked before February ends. If you have elderly parents, May is the best month: cooler than June, drier than August, and the full season is open.

The Booking Process — Step by Step

01

Initial Enquiry (WhatsApp or Call)

Share your preferred dates, number of people, and any health conditions we should know about. We'll confirm availability and send you a full package breakdown within 30 minutes during business hours.

02

Seat Confirmation (25–30% Advance)

To hold your seats, we collect 25–30% of the total package cost. This is non-refundable within 30 days of departure. Helicopter slots with our aviation partners are locked at this stage — your dates are secured.

03

Documents & Registration (60 Days Before)

You'll share: passport-size photos, government-issued ID, and any medical documentation if relevant. We handle Uttarakhand portal registration, VIP darshan pre-booking, and hotel confirmations on your behalf.

04

Balance Payment (14 Days Before)

Remaining balance is due 14 days before departure. UPI, NEFT, bank transfer — all accepted. NRI customers may pay via international wire transfer or NRE account.

05

Pre-Trip Briefing (Day 0 in Dehradun)

On arrival day in Dehradun, our team meets you at the airport or hotel and conducts a 45-minute briefing: what to carry, what to wear, what to expect at each dham, and emergency procedures.

06

Yatra (Days 1–6)

Our team is with you every step. Helicopter flights, hotel transfers, darshan — we handle all logistics. You focus entirely on your spiritual experience.

What to Ask Before You Book

Here are the questions that matter — and what our answers are:

Is VIP darshan actually guaranteed, or just "arranged"?

Guaranteed. We pre-book specific darshan slots at all 4 dhams as part of every package. If for any reason the slot is not available (rare), we escalate to the temple trust directly. This has never resulted in a missed darshan.

What happens if weather grounds the helicopter?

Weather delays are a reality in the Himalayas. We build one buffer day into the 5N/6D itinerary. If delays exceed this, we offer: (a) extend stay at our cost for up to 1 additional night, (b) partial rerouting, or (c) partial refund for missed dhams per our cancellation policy. Full details at cancellation policy.

Can my 70-year-old mother with a pacemaker come?

This requires a doctor's clearance letter (fit-to-fly certification). With a pacemaker that is stable and cleared, many pilgrims have completed the yatra with us. Read our full medical guide for details on specific conditions.

Are children allowed?

Children above 2 years are allowed. Children under 2 travel on a parent's lap (no separate seat). Children count as full passengers for helicopter weight purposes. No age restriction for darshan.

What is the luggage limit?

5–7 kg per person on the helicopter. A small day bag (soft-sided). Excess luggage stays at the Dehradun hotel. We advise pilgrims on exactly what to pack in our pre-trip call — no one has been caught off-guard.

The Best Months — Honest Assessment

May (Best)

Coolest temperatures, full season open, clear skies before monsoon. Most families with elderly parents book May. Downside: highest demand, book earliest.

June (Good)

Still good weather in early June. Pre-monsoon rains may affect mid-to-late June. Kedarnath crowds peak in June. Excellent spiritual atmosphere.

July–August (Caution)

Monsoon. Higher weather-delay risk. More helicopter ground days. However, fewer crowds and surprisingly beautiful green landscapes. For flexible pilgrims only.

September (Good)

Post-monsoon shoulder. Clear skies return. Lower crowds than May/June. Good availability. Often the best value month.

October (Best)

Crisp Himalayan autumn. Perfect visibility, minimal crowds. Temples close in late October/early November. Many regulars prefer October over May.
