Gangotri Yatra Packages
Gangotri at 3,100 m is the second of the four Char Dham seats - the symbolic source of the holy Ganga river and the abode of Goddess Ganga. The temple was rebuilt by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the early 18th century. Pilgrims visit Gangotri only as part of a Char Dham itinerary; we don't offer standalone Gangotri yatras.

Why is there no standalone Gangotri Yatra package?
Pilgrim demand for standalone Gangotri (without the other three dhams) is low. The drive from Haridwar to Gangotri is ~250 km / 9-10 hrs and the temple does not have the same single-dham gravitas as Kedarnath or Badrinath. Pilgrims who specifically want Gangotri usually do it as part of full Char Dham. If you want standalone Gangotri, contact us and we'll quote a custom itinerary.
How do I reach Gangotri on a Char Dham yatra?
Helicopter: morning sortie from Sahastradhara to Harsil helipad, then a short ground transfer to the Gangotri temple, darshan, and return flight by afternoon. Road: drive Haridwar -> Uttarkashi (overnight) -> Gangotri (overnight or day trip), then continue to Yamunotri or Kedarnath sectors.
When is Gangotri open?
Late April or early May (kapat opening on Akshaya Tritiya) to mid-November (kapat closing on Bhai Dooj / Annakoot). The murti is moved to Mukhba village for winter worship and returns to Gangotri at the next opening. See temple timings for 2026 dates.
Is the trek to Gaumukh part of a Char Dham yatra?
No - Gaumukh (the actual glacial source of the Ganga at 4,000 m) is an 18 km trek from Gangotri requiring a permit. Pilgrims interested in Gaumukh do it as a separate trek; our Char Dham packages stop at the Gangotri temple.
What about Tapovan?
Tapovan is a high-altitude meadow above Gaumukh (4,463 m) - reachable only via the Gaumukh trek with rock-climbing fitness. See our Tapovan destination guide. Not part of standard Char Dham.
