TL;DR · This is a single-dham road pilgrimage for devotees who want darshan of Lord Badrinarayan but cannot block ten days for the full Char Dham circuit. Day 2 is the longest leg (Haridwar to Badrinath, 8-10 hours uphill). Day 3 starts with the dawn dip at the Tapt Kund hot sulphur spring, followed by darshan and a side trip to Mana Village, the last village before Tibet, with Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul. Senior pilgrims should be aware of the altitude at Badrinath (3,133 m). For a faster helicopter alternative covering both Kedarnath and Badrinath, see Do Dham by Helicopter. For all four Dhams by road, see Char Dham 9N/10D by Road.

What you see on this yatra

Shri Badrinath Temple

The Himalayan abode of Lord Vishnu, who is said to have meditated under a badri (jujube) tree at this site for thousands of years. The shrine is one of the 108 Divya Desams sacred to Vaishnavites and one of the four Char Dhams. Read the full guide at Badrinath Temple.

Tapt Kund hot spring

Just below the temple, the Tapt Kund is a hot sulphur spring with water around 55°C. Pilgrims take a sacred dip here before darshan. The water has long been credited with relieving skin ailments. Narad Kund - from where the Badrinath idol is believed to have been recovered - lies close by.

Mana Village + Vyas Gufa

Three kilometres beyond the temple lies Mana, the last Indian village before the Tibet border. Visit Vyas Gufa, the cave where Ved Vyas is said to have dictated the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesh, the Bhim Pul stone bridge over the Saraswati, and the source of the Saraswati river itself. Joshimath on the route is the seat of one of the four mathas of Adi Shankaracharya.

Compare options

If you have time for only one Dham, this is the shortest road option. Pilgrims who can spare a fourth or fifth day usually pair Badrinath with Kedarnath as a Do Dham circuit, while those with nine or ten days can complete all four Char Dhams - either by road or by helicopter. The grid below puts the four most-asked options side by side.

Important notes

  • All vehicles in the hills are non-AC. AC does not work in the hilly / ghat region. Mountain hotel services cannot be compared to plain areas - we use the best available at each stop.
  • Day 2 (Haridwar to Badrinath) is the longest driving day - 8 to 10 hours uphill on twisting hill roads. Carry travel-sickness medication if prone.
  • Badrinath sits at 3,133 m. Senior pilgrims and anyone with cardiac, respiratory or blood-pressure conditions should consult their doctor before booking and acclimatise on arrival.
  • The Shri Badrinath Temple opens for the season from late April / early May to mid-November depending on the priestly calendar. Out-of-season dates cannot be operated.
  • VIP darshan, helicopter charters, and any pind daan rituals at Brahma Kapal are at own cost - paid direct to the temple committee or operator.
  • In case of any hike in hotel rates, the package cost will be amended accordingly. During festivals and long weekends, these prices are not valid - quoted on request.
  • If the group does not arrive or depart together, additional transfer charges apply.
  • Vehicles travel only where they are allowed by local transport unions / authorities; AC tempo travellers and coaches are restricted in some hill towns. Guests manage onward access on their own where vehicles are stopped.
  • Any expense incurred due to weather, road closures, or landslides is not covered. We will re-route where possible but cannot guarantee completion if a road or trail is shut. Subject to weather and regulatory clearance.
  • Budget hotels in India are basic - please set expectations accordingly.
